Minnie Riperton’s first album – produced by Charles Stepney of Earth Wind and Fire fame – is Come to My Garden. GRT Records is the first printing or pressing of this album. The company (GRT) failed as a business, and the master recordings of this important album – WERE DESTROYED. That they were destroyed is critical, because the closest you can get to the sound that Riperton, Rudolph and Stepney intended: is this promo copy. Everything else thereafter was a copy of a copy of copy.. One song came from this album – Les Fleurs – that has been used by Hollywood film directors (Jordan Peele and Paul Thomas Anderson) – and in countless commercials. The rapper Nas has sampled this album. It is considered a prototype of Neo Soul : coming to define the genre and its singers. Riperton rarely signed anything. This copy is signed inside — and it’s not just signed – it’s inscribed the year and month it was released: November 1970. And this isn’t just any copy – it’s the promo. I would argue this is the only signed promo – or copy of Come to My Garden – in existence. No seams or binding slips. Gatefold cover looks good. A very presentable copy. Vinyl is strong: VG / VG + condition (nice gloss). One of the most important Neo Soul records ever pressed. One of the greatest singers of the 20th century. One of the most beautiful and underrated albums from 1970. This item is in the category “Music\Vinyl Records”. The seller is “rakes_robe” and is located in this country: US.
